Fellowship IV – Framework

In the first part of the program, the Fellows will collaborate with each other and the network of Fellowship alumni to define personal and network-oriented goals. Fellows will reflect and explore with additional guidance and inspiration from facilitators, peer coaching, guest lecture presentations, and mentorship.

In the second part of the program Fellows will shape projects and programs that both serve their personal goals and support the EAP mission. Fellows will have the opportunity to frame those projects within their existing job(s), with networked teams, or independently, and will be provided with access to a variety of resources and support mechanisms.

2013-14 Fellowship Components & Structure

In the first part of the program, the Fellows will collaborate with each other and the network of Fellowship alumni to define personal and network-oriented goals. Fellows will reflect and explore with additional guidance and inspiration from facilitators, peer coaching, guest lecture presentations, and mentorship.

In the second part of the program Fellows will shape projects and programs that both serve their personal goals and support the EAP mission. Fellows will have the opportunity to frame those projects within their existing job(s), with networked teams, or independently, and will be provided with access to a variety of resources and support mechanisms.

Affinity Areas & Skill Sharing

The Fellowship cohort will be balanced around four affinity areas, to promote the sharing of knowledge and leadership skills. Fellows will be encouraged to share their strongest skills, while also building capacity in each of the other areas.

Content Creators – You are an event producer, a data-driven decision maker, a researcher, a writer, a thought leader, an action-oriented facilitator
Connectors – You love to be a network weaver, to forge new relationships, to discover shared values, to manage a community, to create a sum that is greater than its parts
Visionaries – You are a prolific communicator, a compelling storyteller, a strong advocate, an inspiring leader, a natural innovator, a lighting rod, a strategic dynamo
Team Leaders – You are a coach, a motivator, an intrepid organizer, a quality controller, a creator of systems, a tackler of complex projects, a high achiever

Within each of these affinity areas, Fellows will identify relevant skills to share with the group, and recommend external resources including guest speakers, readings, and other tools. This collective suite of leadership tools will become a shared resource amongst the Fellows, and inform the work done in project teams, and the tenor of networked learning discussions.

2013-14 Project Teams

Fellows will work in project teams to fulfill the mission of EAP. Each project team will be encouraged to connect with members of the EAP network at large who have contributed to the ongoing work of advancing each of these issues. Fellows will be expected to take an active role in assessing the work achieved to date on their issue, and to initiate creative, relevant and impactful responses. These teams will be balanced around four key areas of inquiry:

Open Systems
Open Systems: What is the relationship between an organization, its mission achievement/impact, and its social and environmental context? How is that context, sometimes called ‘community,’ identified and bounded? How permeable or malleable is the boundary, and how do these understandings actively incorporate questions of race, class, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic/class status, citizenship, etc.? Why should arts organizations care about these topics? How do questions of transparency, accountability, and power relate to organizations’ openness, or lack thereof?
Networked Approaches
How do “network” and “community” relate to the purpose of your organization? What companies or organizations are effectively using a “networked approach” in their work? What norms of the arts sector does a “networked approach” challenge, and what choices do arts leaders face as a result? What types of leadership are required to work in a networked way?
Regenerative Practices
How can we make the arts sector more sustainable? What can we do as individuals to renew our energy and passion? What can we do as a network to support each other? What can we do as leaders of programs and organizations to encourage a healthier arts ecosystem?
Research & Development
What does R&D in the arts look like? What are some emerging innovations in the field and how were they nurtured? What types of innovations would you like to see in the field in the next ten years? Twenty years? What are the hindrances to innovation, and how can they be addressed through R&D?
