Randy Reyes

Choreographer / Dance Artist (They/Them or He/Him)

randy reyes is a queer-AfroLatinx-brujx originally from NJ y Guatemala. They are currently based in the Bay Area after oscillating between here, Los Angeles, and NYC. randy is interested in task-mediation improvisations, Chinese Energetics, the presence of absence, grief werq, and creating rituals within the quotidian. Most recently in the Bay Area, randy premiered Lxs Desaparecidxs through the Performing Diaspora residency program via CounterPulse and has been a Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Creative Dissent Fellow, which culminated in a performance installation titled Translating Altars: Altering Translations during this year’s YBCA’s Public Square event. In LA, randy completed one year of the MFA in Dance/Choreography program at UCLA through their World, Arts, & Culture/Dance Department and they have decided to take a break. in nyc, randy was a participant of LANDING 2.0, “an experiment in pedagogy, research, mentorship, and leadership” led by Miguel Gutierrez and invited artists at Gibney Dance Center in NYC this past winter/spring. randy has just returned from Greece this August as a participant of the Ricean School of Dance, which took place on the island of Hydra where they dissolved, moved, and generated more questions about the ways one can become an agent/artist/activator of social change through choreography and performance.
